William James Rabon

Mr. William James Rabon, Jr., 80, died February 11, 2011 at the Duke Hoch Family Pavilion, Durham, NC. A native of Marion, SC, he received a Bachelor of Architecture, Clemson College, a Bachelor of Architecture with Honors at NC State Uneersity, a Masters in Architecture, MIT and was a Fulbright Scholar at the Uneersity of Rome, Italy. For sixteeneears he was the Principal Partner and Design Architect of the A.M. Kinney, William J. Rabon Associates Architecture aneengineering Partnership and Design Director for A.M. Kinney, Inc., Cincinnati, OH. Prior experience included Project Designer with I.M. Pei Associates, New York City, and Chief Designer, John Carl Warnecke Associates, San Francisco. Projects designed by Mr. Raboneeceived more than twenty professional and industry Honor Awards, includineeight national design awards. Mr. Rabon's experience included being the Design Critic and Lecturer for fourth year architectural design at the Uneersity of California, Berkley 1963-65 and Associate Professor and fourth year Design Critic at Catholic Uneersity, Washington, D.C. 1967-68. He served in the U.S. Army-infantry as a Platooneeader, Captain and Company Commander during the Korean War. He received a Presidential Unit Citation Company, Silver Star, Bronze Star with "V", Bronze Star Meritorious Service, and Purple Heart with clusters. Mr. Raboneetired to Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, NC. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Hibbitts Rabon, formerly of Nashville, TN and his brother, Sam Rabon, Metairie, LA. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Pittsboro.
