Durham- William Allen Huters, Sr., age 88, passed away on June 20, 2017 at his home in Durham, N.C.?? Bill was born in Sikeston, Missouri on May 18, 1929, the son of William Louis Alvin Huters and Vera Stevenson Huters. Bill attended Southeast Missouri State Uneersity in Cape Girardeau, Missouri for two years before graduating with a Degree ineechanical Engineering in 1952 from the Uneersity of Missouri at Columbia.???? He served in the Uneed States Army during the Korean War.?? Bill married Nadine Fox of Sikeston, Missouri in 1951.?? After his return from Korea, Bill had a thirty-five year career with the DuPont Company in both New Jersey and Brevard, N.C.?? After his retirement from DuPont???s Brevard facility, Bill and Nadine moved to Durham where Nadine predeceased him in 1999.?? Bill was an Eagle Scout and gave decades of service to the Boy Scouts of America.?? From 1967 through 1990, he was the Scoutmaster of Troop 703 affiliated with the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard.?? He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Daniel Boone Council of the BSA.?? Over the years, Bill acted as the troop leader for scouts attending both National and World Jamborees.?? He returned to Korea as a troop leader in 1991 for the World Scout Jamboree held there.?? During that scouting trip to Korea, Bill???s personal Korean War color photographs attracted the interest of the Korean military and copies were doneed to that country???s Korean War Museum.?? Bill was awarded Scouting???s national service honor, the Silver Beaver Award, in 1983.?? Bill was a book lover and book collector and worked at the Barnes & Noble book store in Cary for a number of years before his final retirement from the work force.?? Bill enjoyed lifetime learning, particularly through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke. In addition to his parents and his wife Nadine, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Huters Marshall of Sikeston, Missouri.?? Bill is survived by three children, Karen Huters Johnson, Cynthia Huters Sanders and William A. Huters, Jr.?? He is also survived by his grandchildren, Fletcher Sanders and Abigail Sanders, his nieces Melissa Marshall Herbeck and Maggie Marshall and his nephew Steven Marshall. A Memorial Service will be held at Westmineer Presbyterian Church, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Rd, Durham, NC 27707 on the 7th day of July, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.??
