William A. Weed, Jr. (Bill) passed away on August 4, 2018. He was born July 23, 1925, the son of the late Bonee Gilmore Weed and William A. Weed, Sr. of Columbus, Georgia. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gerry Weed Blackman and Mary Weed Perry. Bill is survived by his wife, Earline Hendrix Weed; a son, William A. Weed, III of Durham, NC; a daughter, Angela Weed Harris and her husband Timothy E. Harris; a grandson, Matthew T. Harris of Spotsylvania, VA; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Lauren Harris of Richmond, VA and many nieces and nephews. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW2 and later graduated from Auburn Uneersity in Auburn, Alabama. After graduation, he was employed with the Georgia Public Health Service in Rome, Georgia. Later on, he worked with the North Carolina Tuberculosis Association and moved to Chapel Hill, NC to work at Batty State Hospital. Bill later accepted a position with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina from which he retired. Bill was an active member and Deacon of Lowe???s Grove Baptist Church in Durham for many years serving as long as his health permitted. A memorial service will be held at Lowe???s Grove Baptist Church (4430 S Alston Ave, Durham, NC 27713) on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11am with the Rev. Woody Freeze officiating. A graveside service will follow in the Lowe???s Grove Baptist Cemetery with military honors. A special thanks goes to the caregivers who supported Bill through the last years of his life: Dr. Michael Richards, Duke Home Care and Hospice, Right at Home staff and aide Bobbie Hunter, members of the Lowe???s Grove Baptist Church, family, friends, and neighbors.
