Walter Travis Porter III, at age 76, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon soon after returning home from work. During a wonderful life that is a true American success story, Travis accomplished an exceedingly rare feat. He was not only a great maneell known throughout the state for his professional and community distinction, but he also fulfilled his most challenging and treasured personal ambition: to be first and foremost a good and decent man who passioneely loved his family and friends, who stood up for fairness and justice even when it was not in his own professional interest, and who gave his all ineervice to his family, his God, his church, his community and his country.
