Vernon Calvin Porterfield

Durham – Vernon Calvin Porterfield, age 80, died in Kissimmee, Fl on March 5, 2023. He was born on March 19, 1942 to the late Walter Vernon Porterfield and Alma S. Porterfield.

Graduated from Southern High School in 1960 and from Chowan College in 1965 with an Associate degree. Joined the U S Air Force and after discharge worked various jobs until joining the U S Civil Service-Department of Defense/Navy until retired from Civil Service in 2004. Was an active member of the U S Navel Reserve retiring in 1997 after 27 years of service. Worked for Walt Disney Company from 2005 until 2019. Hobbies included genealogy and family history. Being of Scottish origin was a long time member of the St. Andrews Society.

Vernon is survived by his sister Alice A. Porterfield and numerous cousins and was preceded by his parents.

A graveside service will be held 1PM, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
