Tony Carlton Archer (64) passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Duke University Hospital. Tony was born October 1, 1952 to James and Lila Mae Archer in Savannah, GA. After graduating from Robert W. Groves high school in 1970, he met his wife, Paula, in Pooler, GA and were wed in September 1972. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975 as a SPEC 5 with the 28th Infantry division. Following in his father's footsteps, Tony began his career with CertainTeed Corporation in 1969 as a general laborer. Through hard work and dedication, Tony worked his way through the ranks until he became a well respected Production Superintendent responsible for all aspects of production in the Oxford, NC CertainTeed facility. After 43 years with CertainTeed, Tony retired in January of 2013. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf, woodworking, and spending time with his wife and family. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy Archer, and his sister Lunelle Winters. He is survived by his wife, Paula, two sons Dennis (Jill) and Andy (Kristin) of Oxford, grandchildren Everley, Aiden, Kara, and Austin as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday March 27, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Gentry - Newell - Vaughan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at 11 am at Oxford Baptist Church in Oxford, NC with the Rev. Chris Aho officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
