Thomas Lynn "Tommy" Cockman, 56, of Wade Harris Road, Pittsboro, died unexpectedly at UNC Hospital on Monday, December 5, 2011, following a sudden illness on Saturday. Born in Chatham County on June 12, 1955, Tommy was the only child of James Lowell "Jimmy" Cockman and Sarah Frances Harris Cockman. A dedicated employee for 32 years, he was the maintenance director for the Chatham County Schools system at the time of his death. Tommy loved helping his family and friends any way he possibly could; he could do anything he wanted to do. Tommy was a caring, loving husband, father and son. He enjoyed fishing and also restoring old muscle cars. Tommy was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kidd Cockman, of the home; two sons, Stephen Lynn Cockman and Ryan Thomas Cockman, both of Pittsboro; his parents, Jimmy and Frances Cockman, of Snow Camp; and his in-laws, Roy and Alice Kidd, of Pittsboro. The service to celebrate the life of Tommy Cockman will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, December 8, 2011 at Emmaus Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Moore will preside. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall following the funeral service, and at other times at the residence of Roy and Alice Kidd.
