Thomas Girard English

Chapel Hill, NC -Thomas Girard English, age 90, died peacefully at UNC Medical Center on August 9, 2024. He was born on February 15, 1934 to the late Thomas Patrick English and Mary Welch English. 

Thomas graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in New Jersey. He completed his college education with a BA in English and went on to get a Masters Degree in English at the Fordham University in New York City. He was a lifelong educator teaching English and Latin in Jersey City, NJ and English as a Second Language to adults late in his career. 

He met his wife in 2006 and married her in 2007. Even when both were in their senior years, they embarked on a life full of adventure, travelling all over the world and making unforgettable, happy memories. 

Many find Tom as a gregarious, gracious, personable and kind person possessing that Irish wit and humor . He also loved to dance and listen to country music. He believed in being fit by daily visits to the gym and swimming. But most of all, he took pride in being a practicing Catholic and not shy about sharing it with others. His daily routine included reading the Scriptures and religious books.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elnora English, stepdaughter Rochelle Stojnic , step son-in-law Miodrag Stojnic. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary and his only brother, Vincent. 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 23, 2024 , 11:00 am from Holy Infant Catholic Church. 5000 Southpark, Durham, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials/donation may be made to Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Drive, Durham, NC 27713.
