DURHAM -Susan Fox Beischer passed away peacefully at the Duke Hospice Hock Pavilion in Durham, January 20, 2015, after a period of illness. Sue was born in Durham, North Carolina, oneebruary 12, 1942 to the late Frances Hill Fox and the late Herbert J. Fox. She grew up in Durham and graduated from Chatham Hall in 1959. Sue graduated from Duke Uneersity in 1963, where she met her husband, George. George and Sue were married on June 13, 1964 and were happily married for 47 years until George???s death in 2011. Sue was an active member of Westmineer Presbyterian Church in Durham, where she previously served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. She was also very involved as a community voluneer and board member. She previously served as a board member of the Fox Family Foundation, the Durham Arts Council, the Foundation for Better Health, the Friends of the Duke Art Museum, the Durham Academy Board of Trustees and the Hill House Advisory Board. She was also a member of the Durham Junior League, the Durham Debutante Ball Society, the Folio Book Club, the Croasdaile Study Club and the Iron Dukes. Sue enjoyed traveling with her husband, George, and particularly enjoyed trips to art museums aneexhibits around the world. Sue was also very involved with the philanthropic support of Duke Uneersity and its educational mission with scholarship support for students and funding for professorships as well as philanthropic support for Duke Medical Center, and in particular, the Duke Cancer Center Building and its programs. Sue was devoted to her friends and family. She was a wonderful mother and always supportive of her two sons, David and Tom. Her family is grateful for the compassionee care provided by the Duke medical staff and Duke Hospice and for the support and kineess of her many friends during her illness. Her family is also appreciative of the loving care and help for many years of Ruby Stone. Sue is survived by her two sons, David Beischer, and wife, Michelle, of Durham, North Carolina and Tom Beischer, and wife, Lily, of San Francisco, California; and five grandchildren: Will, Nick and Davis Beischer of Durham and Zach and Anna Beischer of San Francisco, California. Sue was pre-deceased by a brother, Randolph Fox. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Westmineer Presbyterian Church in Durham, NC. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
