Sue Partin Thomas

Sue Partin Thomas, 80, of Pittsboro, NC passed away at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp oneebruary 27, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Orange County on May 29, 1930, Sue was raised in Carrboro, NC and was a member of Carrboro Baptist Church until she married in 1951. Sue was the daughter of the late Vinee Frances Oakley Partin and William Clifton Partin. After graduating from Chapel Hill High School in 1948, Sue attended Croft Business School in Durham. While in school she worked at the Carrboro Woolen Mill. In 1950 Sue went to work for White Oaks Department Store in Carrboro, where she worked aneeventually maneed for the next 28 years. Sue theneent to work for UNC Hospitals in the Admissions Department in 1978 until she retired in 1992. Following retirement she went to work at Benchmark, a neelty store in Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro for approximately 8 years. Sue was predeceased by her devoted husband of 58 years, Jim Thomas. She is survived by her only daughter, Dana Thomas Barnes and her husband Bobby Barnes of Cary; granddaughters, Meghan Barnes Thornton and her husband Samuel Thornton of Pittsboro; and Kaitlyn Thomas Barnes of Cary. Also surviving is her brother, Emmett Partin of Burlington; sisters, Jean O'Daniel of Chapel Hill, Jackie Wilson of Boulder, CO, and Rebecca Harris of Pittsboro. She was predeceased by her brother Wilbur Partin and her sister Rachel O'Daniel, both of Chapel Hill. Sue will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her bubbly personality, her wonderful sense of humor, her thoughtfulness for others, and her love for dogs, clothes and travel. The funeral service will be conducted by the Reverend Bob Wachs at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Hanks Chapel Christian Church in Pittsboro, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service at the church, where Sue was a member for 59 years.
