Mr. Sudha Moy ???Pintu??? Dutta died peacefully in UNC Hospice Home on April 30, 2018 in Pittsboro, NC at the age of 70.?? He was a resident of Durham for nearly 40 years. Sudha was passionee about upholding and preserving the cultural roots of his Indian and Bangladeshi ancestry in his adopted country as both a community and business leader. Sudha is survived by his spouse, Suchitra Dutta; children, Sudip Dutta and Sumita Dutta;?? and siblings, Kiron Moy Dutta, Sukha Moy Dutta, Subha Moy Dutta, Papri Dasgupta, and Shuili Sengupta. As??a founding member of what is now the Bengali Association of North Carolina (BANC) in 1988, Sudha Moy Dutta was a pivotal leader in passing down these traditions to future Indo Americaneenerations.?? BANC also revealed the culture of a growing "Desi" community to his fellow North Carolinians??unfamiliar with the Indian subcontinent. Sudha was born on January 12, 1948 in Comilla, Bangladesh to Sudhir Chandra Dutta and Prathiva Dutta.????He married Suchitra in 1982 in Calcutta, India. After moving to Durham, NC in 1978, he began working for Newton Instrument Company - rising from a 3rd shift floor employee to a senior maneer in his near quarter century at the firm. Not solely content with celebrating Indian traditions with BANC, Sudha took the culinary lessons learned from his family kitchens and opened the first authentic, Indianeessert business in North Carolina in 2005 - Mithai: House of Indianeesserts - in Cary, NC.?? Like the BANC, Mithai was a home away from home for the Desi community aneexposed non-Indo Americans' tastebuds to a unique food experience. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 from 2-4 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 Main St, Durham, NC 27701.?? His close friend, Dr. Amalendu Chatterjee, will officiate the ceremony.
