Stephanie Rose "Stella" Ruth

Stephanie Rose Ruth (Stella) was born on May 30th, 1921. The wife of Franklin Ruth, to whom she was married for 42 years, Stella had 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved???and who loved her???very dearly. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Franklin Ruth; her son, Ronald Ruth; and her parents Thomas and Bessie Hanas. Survivors include Ms. Madeline DeLeo of Durham, NC; James Veritas and Suzette Veritas of Mt. Pleasant, SC and children, Riley (12) and Isabella (12); Brian Allen and Diane Allen of Wake Forest, NC and children, Jordan (15), Cooper (13) and Jackson (12). An indomitable spirit who had both an adventurous soul and wonderfully quick wit, Stella was very proud to have worked at AT&T as a secretary for 30 years before retiring and moving from Clark, NJ to Lakehurst, NJ. She often spoke fondly of having lived ineeisure Knoll Retirement Village for 25 years, where she had many friends with whom she enjoyed couneess parties, club meetings aneexcursions to Atlantic City. While there, Stella???s phone constantly rang off the hook, and wheneer family came to visit, she would have all the girls over so she could show them off. Full of energy and always difficult to keep up with, Stella had no cell phone until she moved down to North Carolina with Madeline at 90 years of age! Madeline took exceptional care of Stella and is the reason she lived a long and healthy life until the age of 97! Above all, Stella was a very giving and caring person. She enjoyed knitting???and anytime she was sitting down???was probably making potholders for friends and family or blankets for the babies at the hospital. You could find her at Michael???s buying wool every week! She not only made everyone ineer family a blanket, but also many, many wonderful scarves. Everything Stella knitted was made with great care, with each person in mind and, most importantly, came complete with a small piece that said ???made with love, from Great Grandma.??? Always ready for a road trip, Stella loved to travel. Ineer early years, it would be to go from NJ to NC and VA and, later, from NC to SC to visit her grandson and family. No matter where the destination, she would have her suitcase packed and ready to go as soon as she heard there was a trip! Her grandson and family always enjoyed visits with her. Her great granddaughters will always treasure her handmade blankets. Her humor and love will be missed greatly. Her past time as of late has been running around to all of her grandsons??? baseball, hockey and basketball games. Grandma and Great Grandma are known on all of the teams aneeveryone looks for them. They don???t like to miss a game but if it was 100 degrees, Great Grandma would be forced inside to watch the games on game changer. They also ate lunch with the boys at school every Thursday throughout elementary school. When they would visit her great grandchildren in SC at school, they would also visit for lunch. Stella loved with an openeeart, lived life to the fullest, and always placed her family first. We will miss you Stella???and will share all of the wonderful memories down the road. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Mary???s Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church Street, Norfolk, VA 23504.
