Southgate Jones IV passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 18, 2017. Born July 1, 1990, he is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Southgate Jones III of Durham; brother Alexander Moyer Jones of Durham; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. David Hendry Wallace of Charleston WV; five aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. Gate was predeceased by his sister Margaret Elizabeth Jones on August 13, 2017.
Gate was a recognized leader and mentor to those around him starting at a young age. An accomplished junior golfer Gate competed at a high level spending countless hours at practice, traveling the country to tournaments with family and walking the fairways of Hope Valley Country Club. It was there that so many grew to admire his maturity and engaging persona. As an exclamation point Gate shot a final round 65 to win the HVCC Open before moving on to college.
After graduating from Durham Academy Gate enrolled at The University of Georgia where he graduated from the Terry College of Business with a degree in Risk Management and a minor in Spanish. While at UGA he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity being recognized as his class' number 1 pledge. He had summer internships in Birmingham, Alabama, and London England.
Upon graduation Gate decided to pursue a career in finance and went to work in Little Rock Arkansas in fixed income sales and trading at Crews and Associates. It was there he developed a keen acumen for the fixed income market and elected to bring that expertise back home in 2015 where he joined Northwestern Mutual. As an Associate Wealth Management Advisor in the Triangle Gate contributed significantly to his team in structuring and managing investment portfolios. His team enjoyed record success each of the last two years in growing assets under management.
His love of sports continued post-graduation maintaining a scratch golf handicap, a remarkable acuity of overall sports knowledge and attending Duke basketball games with family and friends. Gate was genuine in his friendships and had life-long bonds that will survive his passing here into eternity.
Gate loved his family deeply. He had a huge heart and always wanted the best for his younger sister and brother. While living his own busy life he could readily be found attending his siblings important events cheering them on. He was relied upon whether counseling Mom and Dad on financial markets or just being there for his family in a moments notice. He was a source of strength to his family after his sister's death, a son and brother you could always count on that will be loved until we see him again.
The family will hold a private funeral service. There will be a celebration and remembrance of this loving son and brother at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials in Gate's name can be made to The First Tee of the Triangle, 8800 Westgate Park Drive Suite 104 Raleigh NC 27617.
