Shirley H. Newton

Shirley Harris Newton, age 88, died on April 6, 2022, at Universal Health Care.  She was the daughter of the late Nathan E. Harris, Sr. and Sarah Arrington Harris.  Shirley was born in Granville County on August 15, 1933.

Shirley met and married her late husband, Joseph Brodie Newton and made a life in Granville County.  She retired from the Granville County Clerk of Courts as an Administrator.  She was a member of West Oxford Baptist Church and was the organist and pianist for the church for 60+ years.

Shirley is survived by her nephew, Michael Harris and his wife, Wilma; her niece, Nancy Harris Ellington, and sister-in-law JoAnn Newton Elliott. She will be deeply missed by numerous loving friends and family.

Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Nathan E. Harris, Jr and great-nephew, Martin Ellington. 

A private family graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, and will be officiated by Rev. Wayne Clark.

Memorials may be made in her honor to West Oxford Baptist Church.
