DURHAM -Sarah Maynard James, 92, died peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2015 at her home in Croasdaile Village. Sarah was born in Durham, NC to Graham B. Maynard and Beatrice Simpson Maynard on July 23, 1922. She was a member of Asbury Uneed Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, was president of her Sunday school class and served ineeveral church positions. Mrs. James sang in the Chancel and Senior Choir and was awarded a life membership by the Uneed Methodist Women. She and her husband, A.P., spent many years representing Asbury as voluneers with Urban Ministries. Sarah graduated from G.H. Friend High School in South Boston, VA and attended Ferrum College.?? She retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 20 years of service, at which time she was the recipient of the Gallenton Award. Sarah is survived by many nieces and nephews aneextended family, ??as well as the McKaig god children and their families. She was preceded ineeath by one sister, Dorothy M. Gardner and two brothers, Merrit J. Maynard and J. Preston Maynard. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Saturday at Asbury Uneed Methodist Church. The family will received friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Asbury Uneed Methodist Church, 806 Clarendon St. Durham, NC 27705.
