FRANKLINTON Samuel Howard Collins, Sr., 78, of Franklinton died oneebruary 21, 2008. He was born March 19, 1929 to the late Johnny Jones and Bessie Fowler Collins. Mr. Collins is a graduate of Franklinton High School. In 1949, he entered the U.S. Navy. His tour of duties included serving aboard the ATF Yuma, San Diego Amphibious Naval Yard and the U.S. Naval Biological Laboratory ineerkley, California until his discharge in 1953. After attending Barber College in Durham, he barbered in Roanee Rapids until he joined the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 1955. His first duty station with the Highway Patrol was Smithfield with subsequent duty stations in Wilson, Raleigh, and Louisburg until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Franklinton Masonic Lodge, #123. His brothers Johnny Jones, Jr., Norris Wilson, Sidney Thomas and William Frank Collins and a sister Margaret Grace Laughter preceded him ineeath. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Affie Mae Pickett Collins, of the home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their families; Judith Ann Collins of Emerald Isle, NC; Nancy Collins Renn of Wake Forest, NC, her husband Alleneenn and their son John Alleneenn and daughter Allison Taylor Renn; Linda Collins Paul of Wilson, NC, her husband Alvin Paul and daughters Randi Lynn Pace of Raleigh, NC, and Cameroneee Paul; Samuel Howard Collins, Jr. of Cary aneemerald Isle, NC, his wife Tammy Watson Collins and children Kyndall Rae Collins, Benjamin Taylor Watts, Kaitlyn Dare Watts and Polly McKenna Watts. His two remaining siblings are Clara Collins Choplin of Burgaw, NC and Joe David Collins of Franklinton, NC. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 22, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Franklin Funeral Service, 504 E. Mason St. in Franklinton. Graveside Services will be held at Fairview Cemetery located near the intersection of NC 56 and Chavis Street in Franklinton on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 2:00 PM.
