OXFORD: Ruby Meadows Averette, 78, a resident of 1169 Community Road, Oxford went to be with her Lord and Savior oneednesday, June 29, 2011 at Brantwood Nursing Center. Prior to her short stay at Brantwood, she received care for Alzheimer's Disease at her home for about 15 years. She was a native of Granville County, the only child of the late Esther Jones Meadows and Arthur Gray Meadows. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as the church's secretary for many years, as well as played the piano for the young children prior to Sunday School every Sunday. Serving as a devoted wife and mother, she was also an employee of Granville County Schools, retiring in 1994. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford, in the Berea Community, with funeral services being held 2 p.m. by Rev. Keith Williams, immediately following visitation at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Macon William Averette, II; four children, Denee Averette Hicks, married to Larry M. Hicks of Oxford, with children Amanda Ulrich and husband John, Michael Hicks and Adam Hicks; Macon, William Averette, III, married to Mary Anne Averette, of Oxford, with daughter Chassidy Averette; Rebecca Averette Michener, married to William T. Michener, III, of Charleston, S.C.; Arthur Artie Meadows Averette, married to Pam T . Averette, of Rougemont, with children Ethan Averette, Caleb Averette, and Lily Rose Averette. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford, N. C. 27565.
