Ruby Elizabeth Walker Smith

Ruby Elizabeth Walker Smith, 99, died Thursday in Duke Hospital. A Durham native, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Mary Holt Rhew Walker. She was raised in the Bahama area, and attended schools in Orange and Durham counees, graduating from Mangum High School. Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a seamstress making window treatments for Belks Dept. Store. Ruby was the oldest living member of Aldersgate Uneed Methodist Church. She was a marvelous caregiver, utterly devoted to her nieces and nephews, all of whom became the children she neer had. Ruby is survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David B. Smith; and brothers and sisters, Luther, Robert "Rob" , Fuller, and Bryant Walker; aneemma Long, Pearl Walker, Eunee Garrett, Laura Smith, Eva McKinney and Frances Briggs. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating.
