Rose Hunter Broadwell

May 1, 1939 — October 13, 2023

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister, Rose Marie Hunter Broadwell peacefully went to be with her lord on Friday, October 13, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 1, 1939, in Henderson, Vance County, NC, to the late Wilford Monroe Hunter and Esther Mae Blackley. Rose was a devoted military wife, having supported her spouse, Walter L. Broadwell, Jr., during his 21 years of service. After his retirement, Rose worked for IBM until her own retirement in 1992. Rose and Walter shared 60 years together filled with faith, adventures, travel, joy, and love.


Rose's pride and utmost joy stemmed from her love for her Lord and her beloved family. She had a deep passion for reading and cherished her Scottish heritage and genealogy research. A devoted member of Snow Camp Baptist Church, Rose loved her church family dearly. She found solace, joy, and comfort in her faith and her church.


She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca B. Guin (Aiden) of the home; son, David E. Broadwell (Linda) of West Milton, PA; and daughter, Mona B. Baker (Tommy) of Wilmington, NC. Rose also leaves behind her cherished grandsons, Laurens R. Holt, Randall A. Holt, David E. Broadwell II (Maggie), and Colin E. Broadwell. She was an adoring great-grandmother to Connor Holt and Charlotte Broadwell, whom she was so proud of. Rose is also survived by her brothers, Hampton M. "Harry" Hunter of Carbon Hills, AL.; Jimmie R. Smith (Claire) of Cary, NC., and Step-Sister Betty Ray Cheatham of Hillsborough, NC.


A graveside service is planned for Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Gray Rock Church, 4173 Gray Rock Road, Kittrell, NC 27544. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Snow Camp Baptist Church, 8724 Snow Camp Rd, Snow Camp, NC 27349, at 6:00 PM.


McClure Funeral Service in Graham, NC, and Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, NC are assisting the family with the arrangements and flowers may be sent to either.
