In Loving Memory
Robert Hardin Weaver of Raleigh, known as Bob to his friends and Bobby to his family, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on January 27, 2023, with family by his side following a period of declining health.
Bobby was the fifth of six children of Walter William and Lottie Brewer Weaver of Durham, NC. After the loss of his father at a young age, Bobby’s mother encouraged him to participate in scouting. With his mother serving as Den Mother at their church, Bobby became an avid scout. He earned the God and Country Award, became an Eagle Scout, and was a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also an Explorer Scout and Sea Scout and worked at Camp Reeves Boy Scout Camp during the summer of 1967.
Bob graduated from Durham High School in 1969, where he excelled as a sprinter on the track team, winning City Champion his senior year. While attending UNC Chapel Hill, he lettered in track and developed an interest in the field of prosthetics and orthotics, which became his life’s vocation. After receiving his professional degree at New York University, he was employed by a local company before founding Professional Orthotics & Prosthetics Inc., where he served thousands of patients over 30 years before retiring in 2015.
Bobby enjoyed several hobbies during his lifetime including hydroplane speed boat racing, a sport he learned from his older twin brothers. During his racing career, he won numerous championships and set several world records. He was most proud of winning the Canadian Valleyfield Regatta for three consecutive years, considered the “Indy 500” of boat racing. Bobby was also an enthusiast of local history, culture and artifacts, a hobby that was influenced by his Uncle John Brewer.
A funeral service will be held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham, NC, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10am followed by a chapel service at 11am officiated by Pastor Mac E. Bare. A graveside service will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
