Robert Wallace Pollard, 84, died peacefully at Durham Regional Hospital after a year of declining health. He was born in Durham and was the son of the late Charlie Alexander Pollard and Isla Sykes Pollard. During WW II, Mr. Pollard served in the U. S. Air Force. He was retired from the American Tobacco Company. Mr. Pollard was a member of the Aneer Avenue Baptist Church and the Cabin Class. In 2004, he was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Mary Tally Pollard.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan Craft and her husband, Jim of Durham; one sister, Alease Wilson Stetson of Durham; two brothers, Charles Pollard and wife Jackie of Durham and Knox Pollard of Cary and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mark T. Higgins will preside.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday. At all other times the family will be at the home of Susan and Jim Craft, 20 Innisfree Drive, Durham, NC 27707, prior to the rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Duke Community Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704.
