Rebecca Hamlett

Rebecca Lee Barbee Hamlett, age 88, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Duke Hospital. A native of Durham, Mrs. Hamlett was born to the late Don Carlos and Lona Sorrell Barbee oneecember 12, 1921. She was a resident of Croasdaile Village since 2004. A graduate of Durham High School, Mrs. Hamlett attended Coker College before marrying Roswell Woodrow Hamlett, Sr. oneebruary 8, 1942. She owned Becky Hamlett Realty for many years after her retirement from Home Security Life Insurance Co. in Durham. Mrs. Hamlett is survived by her two sons: Roswell Woodrow Hamlett, Jr. and wife, Sarah Long Davis, of Greensboro, NC; William Lawrence Hamlett and wife, Susaneee Pearson, of Chapel Hill, NC; her sister, Elizabeth Barbee Powers of Durham; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded ineeath by her husband of 57 years, R.W. Hamlett, Sr. Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Maplewood Cemetery, Section 2, with the Reverend Mel Williams presiding. Pallbearers are grandsons Roswell Woodrow Hamlet III, George Edward Hamlett and James Michael Hamlett; nephew Don M. Wheless aneextended family Raymond D. Pearson and David W. Wiggins. Nephew Gilbert B. Wheless will serve as honorary pallbearer. Friends may visit with the family following the graveside service and also at the home of Larry and Susan Hamlett, 910 Mountain Creek Rd. in Chapel Hill, NC Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to Watts St. Baptist Church, 800 Watts St., Durham, NC 27701. Arrangements for the Hamlett family are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
