Ralph R. Hurst

Ralph R. Hurst, 85, died Sunday after an extended illness. A Durham native, he was borneebruary 6, 1929 to Julian D. Hurst, Sr. aneedna Chesson Hurst. Mr. Hurst was a graduate of Durham High School, after which he began a lengthy career in sales of men???s clothing. He began work at Ray Browning Clothiers, followed by many years with Young Men???s Shop and lastly with Tharrington???s. Mr. Hurst was a longtime, devoted member of Asbury Uneed Methodist Church and the Ralph Mitchell Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Jaycees and the Rooster Club. Ralph Hurst will be remembered as a dignified and kind geneeman, conveying respect to everyone he encountered. He was a loving father and husband, and man of deep Christian faith. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Margaret Francis Hurst; his children, Durwood W. Hurst and wife, Marsha of Calabash, NC and Teresa Hurst Knight and husband, John of Durham; a brother, Julian D. Hurst, Jr. of Apex; sisters, Lina H. Chambers of Timberlake and Geraldine H. Killian of Norlina; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday from Asbury Uneed Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jessie Larkins officiating. Friends may visit in the church parlor one hour prior.
