Phonetta Adcock Leavell

Phonetta Adcock Leavell, age 93, died at home surrounded by her loving family on May 17, 2016 in Durham, N.C. She was the daughter of William Frank and Beatrice (Ragan) Adcock of Durham. Born oneecember 26, 1922, Phonetta was a graduate of Durham High in 1941. After the end of WWII, she joined her father and husband in the family business Adcock Restaurant located on Church St. in Durham where she served as cashier. She was foremost a mother and homemaker; caring for her family. Phonetta loved flowers and gardening and was a member of the Homestead Heights Garden Club. She was always active and was a Durham Regional Voluneer at Duke Regional Hospital for many years. A member of Grace Baptist Church in Durham, Phonetta loved being in their Martha Bible Class. Survivors include her sons; Bill Leavell (Ruth) of Greensboro, NC and Johneeavell of Durham; daughters, Susaneeavell of Raleigh and Nancy Leavell of Durham; grandchildren, Jenneer Leavell Purpera (Brady), and Sarah Elizabeth Leavell; great-grandchildren, Logan and Chelsea Purpera, and many nieces and nephews. Phonetta was preceded ineeath by her parents, her husband Henry B Leavell, brothers William F Adcock Jr. and Louis H Adcock, and sister Nancy Adcock Hall. A funeral service for Phonetta will be held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, May 21 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Woodlawneemetery in Durham following the service.
