Paula Yancey Pittard, age 75, died on March 7, 2021 at Franklin Manor Assisted Living Center having been surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Randolph Yancey and Mae Powell Yancey. Paula was born in Granville County on February 9, 1946.
Paula graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree as a Registered Nurse. She was employed by Murdoch Center in Butner, NC, where she served as a Nurse, a member of Staff Development, and, eventually, the Director of Nursing in the Infirmary.
She was an active member of Community United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, President of the United Methodist Women, a member of the choir, and a variety of other church offices. She served as a Lay Member to Annual Conference for more than twenty years, and as President of the Durham District of the United Methodist Women. She was active in the Heart of Carolina Emmaus Community and Torch Ministries.
Paula served as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts Pack 648 and Associate Advisor of the Explorer Post 648.
Paula is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lee Roy Pittard, Jr.; her children, Rev. Lee Roy Pittard, III and wife, Anita; Angela P. Smith and husband, Jason; 6 beautiful grandchildren and 6 beloved great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving family and friends too numerous to name.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Mitchell.
A visitation will be held for family and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Community United Methodist Church, Butner, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm at Community UMC officiated by Rev. Lee Roy Pittard, III and Rev. Norma Roberts. The service will be held outside, weather permitting, to allow for safe physical distancing among all who would like to attend. COVID-19 safety protocols shall be followed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Community United Methodist Church, the Memorial Fund, 507 West E Street, Butner, NC 27509.
