Patrick H. Barnes, III, 79, of Apex, NC, passed away peacefully in his home, located at 274 McCoy Road. He showed strength, courage and a positive outlook during his extended battle with cancer. As a young man, Patrick Barnes was a proud Eagle Scout. He graduated from NC State Uneersity in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. He owned his own business, Patrick H. Barnes, General Contractor, for 44 years. A former Chatham County Commissioner, he served oneeveral county boards including the EDC, SWAC, the Board of Health, and the Board of Trustees at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford. His final endeavor was the completion of the Sprott Center in Moncure, NC and the continuation of Chatham Trades in Siler City. Mr. Barnes had many passions, including touring the country on his motorcycle and NASCAR racing. He also had a deep and abiding love for nature, as seen in his plantings of pecan trees and grapes on the family farm, and his work with The Orchard at Altapass, a nonprofit organization who honeed him with a lifetime membership. Left to cherish Patrick???s memory is his faithful and caring wife, Becky Morgan Barnes of the home; his daughters Susan Barnes of Seattle, WA, Kimberley Barnes and husband Terry Hardy of Pinehurst, NC, Melinda Barnes and husbaneedward Scammon of Southern Pines, NC; his sons Patrick H. Barnes, IV and fianc?? Nicole Longo of Pittsboro, Timothy Barnes and wife Molly Hogan Barnes of Mebane, NC, Aneew Barnes of Apex, NC; his stepdaughters Kimberly Aycock and husband Stuart of Durham, NC, Kristin Price and husband Donee of Prospect Hill, NC; his grandchildreneenjamin Edward Scammon, Charlotte Elizabeth Barnes, Liam Graham and Tyler Elizabeth Scott/Barnes; his step-grandchildren Kaytee Price, Bradley and Sarah Aycock, Aaron and Taylor Hardy; and his sister Minee Bell Jones and husband Robert Jones of Apex, NC. He was preceded ineeath by his first wife of 37 years and the mother of his six children, Mary Elizabeth Forbes Barnes of Tennessee; his daughter-in-law Lorelei Douglas Barnes; his parents Patrick H. Barnes, Jr. and Minee Bell Barnes of Raleigh, NC. The visitation will be held 6-8:00pm Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Pittsboro, NC. A service to honor the life of Patrick Barnes will be held 4:00pm Thursday, April 16th at Bells Baptist Church, 1274 Farrington Rd., Apex, NC 27523. A Celebration of Patrick???s life will be held 4-6:00pm, Saturday April 18, 2015 at Virlie???s Grill- 58 Hillsboro St., Pittsboro, NC 27312. Accepting flowers and/or contributions, it was Patrick???s wish that donations be made to: Chatham Trades, 909 Alston Bridge Rd., Siler City, NC 27344.
