Patricia Heilig Poret

Patricia Heilig Poret, age 89, died in Durham on October 30, 2021. She was born on January 28^th, 1932, to the late Herman and Sara Heilig of Hendersonville, NC.

Mrs. Poret was a lifelong nurse. She spent the latter part of her career at the UNC Chapel Hill Student Health Service and at the Carol Woods Retirement Community. Earlier in her career she served as a missionary nurse in Chonju, Korea, and as a nursing instructor in the Asheville-Hendersonville area.

Mrs. Poret was active in community and church service. She was a reading partner in the city schools and taught ESL for RSVP out of the Senior Center in Chapel Hill. In her church, she served as a stephen minister and Deacon. She had a great love for the people of Haiti and traveled frequently to the country in support of her church’s Outreach Programs there.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Laure Poret White (Jeffrey) of Durham, NC; two nephews, Pat and Chris Jones of Hendersonville NC; nieces Kathey Jones of Flat Rock, NC; Julie Jones of Travelers Rest, SC and Angela H. Scallon of Dripping Springs, TX; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Razzano Cornett of Lakeway, TX, and eight grand nephews and three grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Jones of Hendersonville, NC; brother Donald Mayo Heilig of Lakeway, TX and nephew, D.M Heilig II of Dunedin, FL.

A memorial service will be held at Chapel in the Pines, Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hearts with Haiti in Raleigh, NC, Durham Rescue Mission of Durham, NC, and Chatham Family Violence Prevention Services of Pittsboro, NC.
