DURHAM - Gayle Averette, 68, died Thursday, March 6, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Wallace L. Bowling and Katherine Browning Bowling. Gayle was born and reared in Durham. After graduating from Western Carolina, Gayle worked as a speech therapist until she and Roy started their family, at which time she became a stay-at-home mother, a role that she cherished. Gayle loved God, and she considered herself blessed to sing His praises in church choirs throughout most of her life. She was an active member of Trianee Presbyterian Church. Gayle's family, both immediate aneextended, were treasured by her. She had a particularly rich relationship with her two grandsons, Barrett and Bennett, who felt loved and nurtured by the woman they called "Gammy." Both family and friends felt that same kineess over the decades, and her absence will be felt keenly. Gayle is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roy Averette, her children, Melissa Britt of Creedmoor, Brian Averette and his wife, Joaneepper of Durham, and her grandchildren, Barrett and Bennett Britt. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Trianee Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ray Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O.
