Oliverio Reyes Bravo

Oliverio Reyes Bravo passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2025, of natural causes. His life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and love—a beautiful blend of the American Dream and the spirit of Mexico. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend who greeted the world with a warm smile.

 Born on November 6, 1962, in San Bernardo, Puebla, Mexico, to Zeferino Reyes Bravo and Paulina Bravo Balbuena, Oliverio spent his early years working alongside his father, helping to sow and harvest beans, peanuts, and other crops on their family farm. As the eldest son, he was a pillar of support for his parents and nine siblings.

 At the age of 14, he left home for Mexico City with an uncle in search of a better life to support himself and his siblings. He did various jobs there, including work at a chicken rotisserie, an engine manufacturing plant, and later working as a valet and taxi driver. In Mexico City on May 25, 1991, Oliverio married his best friend, Patricia Martinez Caballero. A year later, they welcomed their first son, Marco Antonio Reyes Martinez. Together, they built a life centered on love, hard work, and family.

 In 1997, Oliverio and Patricia immigrated to the United States with Marco, seeking a better future. Their family grew in 2000 with the birth of their youngest son, Isaias Reyes-Martinez. Driven by a desire to provide the best for his growing family, Oliverio put his diverse skills to work. He held various positions, including groundskeeper and maintenance technician, while pursuing his dream of self-employment. He eventually realized this dream, proudly launching his own landscaping business and, later, a housekeeping company with Patricia.

Even while working long hours, Oliverio remained very civic-minded, mostly regarding his Catholic faith. He was part of the marriage advisory, Platicas Pre-Matrimoniales, at Immaculate Conception Church in Durham, where he provided advice and support for newlywed couples to observe their Catholic faith. He also supported and was involved in his sons’ projects and schools by volunteering at activities that included Catechesis, Durham Nativity School, Boy Scouts of America, and numerous sports teams. 

Oliverio's passions enriched his life beyond work and faith. He found joy in simple pleasures like music, science fiction films, baseball, and cooking, sharing these interests with his two sons. These shared passions were particularly important in his relationship with Isaias. While Marco was away at college and Patricia worked weekends, Oliverio dedicated his time to Isaias, using these shared interests as a way to connect and teach his son valuable life lessons. Though Oliverio never had the chance to travel extensively, he explored the world through the adventures of chefs like Anthony Bourdain and Guy Fieri on culinary travel shows. 

However, his most precious dream as a father and immigrant to this country was fulfilled before he passed—he provided his family with the best possible life he could, including a home, a college education for his two sons, and a life more wonderful than he ever imagined growing up in his small rural village in Mexico. 

Oliverio is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Patricia Martinez Caballero, and sons Marco Antonio Reyes Martinez and Isaias Reyes-Martinez, his parents Zeferino Reyes Bravo and Paulina Bravo Balbuena, and eight siblings. He is also survived by his cat Boots. 

A mass will be held Sunday, February 23, at 9 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 804 W. D St, Butner, NC 27509. The family will greet friends and family afterward at 2084 Meadow View Dr, Creedmoor, NC 27522. The family asks that instead of flowers, contributions to help offset their unexpected funeral and burial expenses and lost wages would be greatly appreciated. Oliverio Reyes Bravo falleció inesperadamente el 16 de febrero de 2025, por causas naturales. Su vida fue un testimonio de perseverancia, fe y amor: una hermosa combinación del sueño americano y el espíritu de México. Siempre será recordado como un devoto esposo, padre y amigo que saludó al mundo con una cálida sonrisa.

 Nacido el 6 de noviembre de 1962 en San Bernardo, Puebla, México, hijo de Zeferino Reyes Bravo y Paulina Bravo Balbuena, Oliverio pasó sus primeros años trabajando junto a su padre, ayudando a sembrar y cosechar frijoles, cacahuates y otros cultivos en el rancho familiar. Como hijo mayor, fue un pilar de apoyo para sus padres y sus nueve hermanos.

 A la edad de 14 años, dejó su hogar y fue a la Ciudad de México con un tío, buscando una vida mejor para sí mismo y para sus hermanos. Desempeñó varios trabajos allí, incluso en un asador de pollos y en una fábrica de motores y, más tarde, trabajó como valet y taxista.

 En la Ciudad de México el 25 de mayo de 1991 se casó con su mejor amiga, Patricia Martinez Caballero. Un año más tarde, le dieron la bienvenida a su primer hijo, Marco Antonio Reyes Martinez. Juntos, construyeron una vida centrada en el amor, el trabajo duro y la familia.

 En 1997, Oliverio y Patricia emigraron a los Estados Unidos en busca de un mejor futuro. Su familia creció en el año 2000 con el nacimiento de su hijo menor, Isaias Reyes Martinez. Impulsado por el deseo de brindar lo mejor a su creciente familia, Oliverio puso a trabajar sus diversas habilidades. Ocupó varios puestos, incluso el de ser jardinero y técnico de mantenimiento, mientras perseguía su sueño de trabajar por cuenta propia. Finalmente hizo realidad ese sueño y lanzó con orgullo su negocio de jardinería y, más tarde, una empresa de limpieza con Patricia.

 Aun mientras trabajaba largas horas, Oliverio participó activamente en asuntos comunitarios, particularmente con relación a su fe católica. Formó parte de la asesoría matrimonial (Pláticas Pre-Matrimoniales) de la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción en Durham, donde brindó consejos y apoyo a las parejas de recién casados para que observaran su fe católica. También apoyó y participó en los proyectos y las escuelas de sus hijos, como voluntario en actividades que incluían clases de Catecismo, la Escuela de Durham Nativity, los Boy Scouts de América y numerosos equipos deportivos.

 Las pasiones de Oliverio enriquecieron su vida más allá del trabajo y la fe. Encontró alegría en placeres simples como la música, las películas de ciencia ficción, el béisbol y la cocina, y compartía estos intereses con sus dos hijos. Estas pasiones compartidas fueron particularmente importantes en su relación con Isaias. Mientras Marco estaba en la universidad y Patricia trabajaba los fines de semana, Oliverio dedicó su tiempo a Isaias, utilizando estos intereses compartidos como una forma de conectarse y enseñarle a su hijo valiosas lecciones de la vida. Aunque Oliverio nunca tuvo la oportunidad de viajar mucho, exploró el mundo a través de espectáculos culinarios, admirando las aventuras de Anthony Bourdain, Guy Fieri y otros.

 Sin embargo, su sueño más preciado como padre e inmigrante en este país se cumplió antes de su fallecimiento: le brindó a su familia la mejor vida que pudo, incluso un hogar, una educación universitaria para sus dos hijos y una vida más maravillosa de lo que jamás imaginó mientras crecía en su pequeño pueblo rural de México.

 A Oliverio le sobreviven su amada esposa y mejor amiga Patricia Martínez Caballero, sus hijos Marco Antonio Reyes Martínez e Isaías Reyes-Martínez, sus padres Zeferino Reyes Bravo y Paulina Bravo Balbuena, y ocho hermanos. También le sobrevive su gato, Botas. 

Se llevará a cabo una misa el domingo, 23 de febrero, a las 9 a. m. en la Iglesia Católica St. Bernadette, 804 W. D St, Butner, NC 27509. Luego, la familia recibirá a amigos y familiares en 2084 Meadow View Dr, Creedmoor, NC 27522.

 La familia pide que, en lugar de flores, agradecerán contribuciones para ayudar a compensar los gastos inesperados del funeral y el entierro y la pérdida de ingresos.
