George E. Persinger, 74, of Pittsboro, NC, formerly of New Martinsville, WV, passed from an active life Monday, April 27, at the UNC Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. He had successfully coneered bladder cancer six years ago and, whenee was diagneed with lung cancer in March he maintained his positive approach and independence. George was born June 28, 1940, in Marshall County, WV, the son of Clayton and Thelma Wolfe Persinger. His parents and brother Claytoneee Persinger preceded him ineeath. Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Garnet Lasure Persinger; sons and their families--Charles, Deanne, Brandon and Alisoneersinger of Carmel, Indiana and Morgan, Jenneer, Jack and Sam Persinger of Apex, NC.; brother Lionel Lemoyne and Mary Lee Persinger and family and sister-in-law Lettie Persinger and family of Proctor WV; and the Lasure family sisters and brothers and families. George was dedicated to his family, supporting Garnet???s educational career, serving as a full-time father to his young sons for some years, and an active, caring, and proud grandfather. He graduated Moundsville High School, WV; served in the U.S. Army; worked as a computer operator and asphalt lab technician; and was owner/maneer of Padeneemorial Gardens for more than 20 years. In 2006, he packed up some of his old lawn tractors and he and Garnet moved to NC where he actively developed the landscaping at their rural Dreamscapes home as he had done at previous homes and assisted in maintaining the grounds of the church and as helper at the food pantry where he was a member--Evergreen Uneed Methodist Church. He was an early and active member of the Trianee Bladder Cancer Support Group, sharing his experience as a bladder cancer survivor. In 2013, he joined with others in forming the Trianee Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. Memorial services will be held at Evergreen Uneed Methodist Church, Chapel Hill, NC, at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 22, and at Padeneemorial Gardens, New Martinsville, WV at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, with his beloved pastor, Rev. Hannah Pinckney McManus, officiating.
