Michelle Mason King

December 5, 1967 — November 30, 2023

Michelle Mason King, has died at the age of 56, on Thursday, November 30th, 2023, in Durham, N.C.

She was born in Boston, Mass., to Edna Taylor Mason and Norman Christy Mason on Dec. 5, 1967. She graduated from Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh and went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From there, she attended North Carolina State University, where she met Kevin S. King. They were married June 25th, 1994.

In 1999, she gave birth to her first child, Mason Scott King, and two and a half years later had her second son, William (Liam) Walker King. She dedicated the rest of her life, after teaching, to being a caring mother to her two sons.

As a creative, free-thinker, Michelle had undeniable taste. Her home on Wrightsville Beach was her comfort place that she could express herself through. Painting, entertaining and homemaking were her passions along with loving her chocolate lab, Drake.

When not with her family, Michelle loved to spend the days with her friends, attending concerts, traveling, and ‘people watching’ down at the beach.

She is survived by her parents, Edna Taylor Mason and Norman Christy Mason; husband, Kevin Scott King; children, William Walker King and Mason Scott King; sister, Jennifer Louise Mason; dog, Drake, and the countless loving friends that she held so tight.

Her physical remains will be spread in the waterways of Wrightsville Beach. There, she can spend her days surrounded by the things she loved the most; family, friends, a warm breeze, and beautiful sunsets.
