DURHAH-Melvin Craig Gibson, age 96, resident of 5116 Lansdowne Drive, died Thursday afternoon at his home. Born October 7, 1920 ineeadville, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Bliss Clarence and Helen Cunningham Gibson. Melvin graduated from Summit High School in Harmonsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1940, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S Army. Melvin moved to Stem in 1949, and had been a resident of Durham for the past 65 years. He was employed with Sperry Rand Company for 20 years, then with Montgomery Aldridge for 5 years, and retired in 1983, from Northerneelecom. Melvin had also worked at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service as a part time employee, for 34 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, and had been an active participant in the church visitation program. Surviving are his stepson, William S. Terry of Durham; his granddaughter, Lisa Davis Pope and husband Mike of Durham; two grandsons, Kevin M. Davis of Durham and M. Brian Davis and Tonia Johnson of Timberlake; great granddaughter, Lineey Pope Ivey and husband Tony of Durham, and Courtney Johnson of Creedmoor; three great grandsons, Michael Stewart Pope, Jr and wife Jessica of Durham, Zachery Madison Davis and Dalton Dale Davis both of Timberlake; two nieces Chris G. King and husband David of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania and Linda G Barnes and husband Jerry of Linesville, Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law, Marion C. Nichols of Durham; and his nephew, Kenny Cash and wife, Donna of Carrboro. Melvin was preceded ineeath by his first wife Beulah Cash Gibson, his second wife Anee Lee Terry Gibson, his daughter Janee Gibson Davis and his brother, Willis E. Gibson. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00pm in the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, Rev. Mark Mofield officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2:00pm. Pallbearers will be Charles Adams, Sandy Avent, Jim Haywood, David Rigsbee, Ed Smith, Norman Taylor, and David Washburn. Honorary Pallbearers will be the full and part time staff of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, care of Margaret Ray, 1740 Tredegar, Kernersville, NC 27284.
