Mary Thurman Easley

July 22, 1925 — November 25, 2022

Mary Thurman Wright Easley of Cary, N.C. departed for Heaven on November 25th, 2022.

A service celebrating her wonderful life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4th at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 2220 High House Road in Cary, NC.

Mary was a native of Roanoke, Virginia and graduate of Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse, utilizing her innate compassion and love for others in her daily work. Mary retired as the Nurse Manager at IBM in 1988.

Mary lived a life that most would aspire to. She really knew what was important in life: faith, family and friends. She would end each night reading her Bible and saying a lengthy prayer, as she thought of each person she knew who needed God’s touch. Her multiple bible study groups were filled with lively discussions and, most importantly, loving thoughts and friendships. Mary also enjoyed playing card games with her dear friend Pat Brown and others and was a pro at playing Rumicube.

Mary was the cornerstone of her immediate family, as well as her extended family. She was able to engage with all of her family members, with ages spanning from newborns to ninety five years old. She was a remarkable wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and all other family titles that were bestowed upon her. When there was a need for practical wisdom, she was called by all, recognizing that she would provide unconditional love and support without judgment.

Mary had friends from all walks of life and was loved by everyone. Her kindness and sweet nature brought many people into her life. Even at age ninety seven, she remained very active and lived independently until God called her home. In fact, she became the “Unofficial Facebook Queen” when she could no longer see her dear friends in person due to Covid. She was everyone’s mother, grandmother or best friend.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, William Daniel “Buck” Easley Jr., her parents Anna Vesta Clingenpeel Wright and Luther Farrar Wright, her sister Elizabeth Powell, brothers, John, Francis and L.D., as well as two grandchildren, William Daniel “Bucky” Easley IV and Benjamin Churchill “Church” Brooks.

Surviving is her 95 year old “little brother” Frederick “Buddy” Wright of Roanoke, Va., her three children (and their respective spouses and children) William Daniel “Bill” Easley III (Joy : Jennifer, Joseph, Dustin, Katherine & Frankie) of Southport, NC, Elizabeth Easley Wetherill (Tommy) of Wilmington, NC, and Emily Easley Brooks (Ben : Megan, Ashley, Haley, Cooper & Hill) of Cary, NC, 12 precious great grandchildren (with three additional great grandchildren on the way), two nephews she lovingly raised, Timothy Wright and Michael Wright (Mary : Clay, Braeden), many additional special nieces and nephews, and last, but not least, by her fifteen year old goldendoodle, Tait, who was her much loved best buddy and constant companion.

Mary’s favorite quote was “THIS TOO SHALL PASS” ...and she did, with a sweet smile on her face, songs of praise in her heart and the full PEACE of Jesus in her soul. Her life was (and is) a blessing from God!

In lieu of flowers, we are sure that Mary would much rather you do something special with your family, making happy memories. Otherwise, if you feel so moved, that donations be made to her much loved Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC.
