Mary Sturdivant Griffin, age 93, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend died peacefully on October 8, 2010 ineer home. Mary was born in Chatham County to the late William R. and Novie Eubanks Sturdivant. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Charlie J. Griffin. She is survived by her son, Ronee and wife, Grace of Durham; three grandchildren, Denee Griffin of Creedmoor; Renee Smith and husband, Joe, of Durham; Candace Riedl and husband, Scott, of Greensboro; two great-grandchildren, Caity Griffin and Trent Smith; and neerous extended family members. Mary was one of eleven siblings and predeceased by sisters, Addie Powell and Jessie Aneews; and brothers, Paul, Gene, James, Edgar and Grady Sturdivant. Surviving are sister, Ruth Peninger and brothers, John and Larry Sturdivant. Mary was a member of Duke Memorial Uneed Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She was an excellent homemaker and devoted friend. She had a "green thumb" aneenjoyed working ineer yard and garden. Mary loved children and was affectioneely nickneed "Maymay" by her nieces and nephews and as "Mimi" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, she provided care and comfort for her grandchildren, other family members and friends. Mary was an excellent cook and the master of desserts at family gatherings. She was a confidant, teacher, role model and playmate for children throughout her life and was respected for her goodness and generosity aneendeared for her sense of humor. Her presence among us will be greatly missed. Her life lessons and memories of her will forever remain within the heart and soul of everyone fortunee enough to know and love her. Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Monday, October 11, 2010, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham with the Reverends Roger Owens and Scott Grantland presiding. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. The family will welcome friends prior to the service on Monday from 1:00-1:45PM in the funeral home and other times at the home of her son. The family recognees aneextends appreciation to each member of her in-home care providers: Shirlene, Kathy, Jeanne, Carolyn, Darlene, and Teresa along with Duke Hospice staff: Joaneellen, Weena and Tom.
