DURHAM: Mary Mullahey Pendergrass, 91, died Thursday after an extended illness. A native of Des Moines, IA, she moved to Durham in 1949, relocating thereafter to Goldsboro for 23 years before returning to Durham in 1978. Mary spent her career as an administrative assistant, working for many years at St. Mary???s Catholic Church and School in Goldsboro. She later worked with EPA and the NC School of Science and Math. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mary was devoted to her six children and grandchildren, and always made her family top priority. Surviving are her children, John and James of Durham, George of Chattanooga, TN, Susan of Chicago, Mary Sochacki of Barefoot Bay, FL and Carol Wheeless of Oxford; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Mullahey and sister, Ann Schluter. She was predeceased by her husband Luther in 1996. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 AM Tuesday from Immaculate Conception Church. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory. Friends may visit 6-8 PM Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Memorial gifts to the Alzheimer???s Assn, alz.org or to Cerebral Palsy Foundation, cpirf.org.
