Mary Jane Terry

Mary Jane Terry passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 23^rd, 2022, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Abbie Smith Terry, father, John Pegram Terry, and brother, Rodney Terry, of Hillsborough, North Carolina. She is survived by her loving sister, Alice Terry Pearce, who had been taking care of Mary for the last several years as her health declined. They enjoyed hours-long conversations on the phone that always ended with, “Call me back!” She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kyle Pearce, niece and nephew, Kelly and Kevin Pearce, and great-niece, Harper Pearce. Additionally, she be greatly missed by her friends at Caremoor Assisted Living in Concord, NC, where she had been living for the last couple of years.

Mary was born in Durham, NC on March 28th, 1958. She graduated from North Carolina State University with degrees in Parks and Recreation, concentrating in Natural Resources. Following completion of her Master’s program, she dedicated her life to educating others about and supporting wildlife. During her career, she highlighted the time spent time working at a dude ranch in Montana and living in Equator, where she studied the migration patterns of Monarch butterflies. She shared her life with many pets over the years, which she loved dearly and she is undoubtedly overjoyed to be reunited with them.

Mary’s memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm on Tuesday, May 3^rd at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham, NC. A time to visit with Mary’s family will take place at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church.
