Mary Garves Bland

BLAND Mary Garves Bland, age 100, died Thursday morning, July 6, in Croasdaile Village. Born in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Franklineeterson and Alverta Garves Bland. She moved to Durham at an early age and was a member of the first graduating class of Durham High School in 1924. Miss Bland was a graduate of the North Carolina College for Women, now UNC-Greensboro. Prior to retiring, she was a legal secretary with the Law Firm of the late Victor S. Bryant for 47 years. Miss Bland was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where she was in the Faithful Sunday School Class and voluneered in the church library. Surviving are several cousins. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 10, in Maplewood Cemetery, Section 2. The Rev. Andy Winn will preside.
