Mary Ellis High passed away peacefully with her family and loved ones by her side at home Friday morning, July 16, 2010. Born in Wake County to the late Edward and Lillie Ferrell Ellis, Mary was a devoted member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Cary and the Philathea Sunday School Class for over 50 years. She worked at IBM in the cafeteria before retiring after 15 years of employment. Mary was an exceptional cook who took great delight in baking her signature chocolate pies and pound cake for family and friends. Most neeworthy were the many beautiful flowers she grew aneenjoyed around the house. Mary is survived by her son, Freddie High and wife, Debbie, of Siler City, NC; her daughters, Deborah Dismuke and husband, Charles, of Cary; Theresa O'Briant, also of Cary; her sister, Ruth Holmes of Virginia Beach, VA; her half-sister, Eunee Brower of California; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded ineeath by her husband of 66 years, Marvin High, who died January 7 of this year; her brother, L.B. Ellis; and half sister, Edna Leathers. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 19, 2010 from Good Hope Baptist Church located at 6628 Good Hope Church Rd in Cary with the Reverend Keith Vaughan presiding. Burial will follow in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit Sunday afternoon from 3:00-5:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please write Mary's nee on the memo line of your check.
