Mary Blake Winters

Mary Blake Winters, age 93, died peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, NC. She was born on June 20, 1923 in Chatham County to the late Carney and Nellie Williams. Mary, affectioneely known by many as ???Blakie???, retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and was well known and admired ineer community for her quilting and cross stitching talent. She had been a resident of Durham for more than fifty years and was a long-time member of Yates Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Hal Winters and wife Susan, her daughter, Susaneearwood and husband Tom, her sisters, Iris Ripley and Nancy McCoy, eight grandchildren, aneeight great-grandchildren. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Harold B. Winters. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Yates Baptist Church with Pastor Christopher Ingram presiding. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to the Yates Baptist Church Building Fund, 2819 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, NC 27707.
