DURHAM: Mary Anne Long, 58, passed away Tuesday, March 3 surrounded by her loving family following a heroic battle with cancer. Mary Anne's will to live in the face of adversity inspired couneess people nationwide. She was borneebruary 24, 1951 in Durham to Mary Alice D. Eubanks and the late Ruie Eubanks. A 1969 Durham High School graduate, Mary Anne graduated from Peace College in Raleigh. She theneeceived a degree in education from the Uneersity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and beganeer teaching career in the Durham County Schools. Mary Anne taught dance for a number of years, was Corporate Secretary of Long Beverage, Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors. She was a member of the Board of Visitors of UNC's Lineerger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Mary Anne was also a member of All Saints Uneed Methodist Church in Raleigh. Mary Anne was a natural athlete, accomplished in snow skiing, dance and tennis. She will be especially remembered for her fun-loving, vivacious nature. To know her was to love her, as Mary Anne focused upon others. Her outlook was constantly positive, discovering good in any situation. Mary Anne was a woman of exquisite taste and graciousness, and above all, an exceptional example of courage, unselfishness and deep faith. A radiant spirit, her outer beauty was equaled by her inner beauty. Mary Anne was utterly devoted to her daughters, Corie and Macey, and her loving soul mate Rodney. Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Rodney M. Long; daughters, Macey A. Long of New York City and Corie A. Latta and husband, Daniel R. Latta of Durham; her twin grandsons, Aidan Bryce and Brody Cole Latta; and her mother, Mary Alice D. Eubanks of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by her brothers, William R. Eubanks and wife, Libby of Fairview and Joseph M. Eubanks and wife, Betsy of Durham. Surviving in-laws include James A. Long and wife, Joy of Wrightsville Beach, Donald K. Long of Selma, Anita L. Shore of Durham, David "Crockett" Long of Raleigh and Thomas U. Long of Raleigh; nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends whose lives she touched. Friends may visit 7-9 PM Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St. Durham. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday from the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Gregory Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
