Mary Ann Edwards

August 25, 1941 — April 26, 2024

Mary Ann Matthews Edwards, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 26, 2024. Born on August 25, 1941, in Granville County, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert Matthews and Lessie Mae Williamson Matthews.


Mary was known for her warm heart and gentle spirit, touching the lives of all who knew her. She was a beacon of kindness and grace, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. She retired from Russell Stover, where she was loved by all.


She is survived by her devoted husband of 8 years, Leo JC Edwards; her sons, Harvey (Rhonda) West of Bullock, NC, and Dennis (Brenda) West of Raleigh; her beloved grandchildren, Megan West, Clifton West, and Kalon West; as well as her three precious great-grandchildren. Mary's sister, Dorothy Little, and numerous extended family and friends will hold her memory dear.


Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jason West, her granddaughter Haley West, and her siblings Herbert Matthews, Jr., James “Whacky” Matthews, John G. “Buck” Matthews, Ralph Alps Matthews, Robert Lee Matthews, and Eula Belle Matthews Blanks.


In honor of Mary's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Stovall Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.


A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be announced by the family at a later date to be held at Stovall Methodist Church.
