DURHAM: Mary Aneevans Roe, 78, died Friday at Spring Arbor following a long decline. She was born June 14, 1937 in Pueblo, CO to Guy and Kathryn (Dudley) Evans. With parents who insisted on the finest education, Mary Ann came to Duke Uneersity for college, where she met her former husband. She raised her children in Durham and remained in Durham until her death. Mary Ann Roe lived her life for the wellbeing of others. She had a deep sense of mission for the disadvantaged, with a passion toward social justice and civil rights. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, Mary Ann was a tireless voluneer, devotineefforts to Women in Action (for the prevention of violence and its causes), the Voluneer Services Bureau, the Durham County Board of Elections, the Junior League and Girl Scouts. She was employed for over 20 years with Durham County Social Services, working in both adult services and child protective services. Surviving are her children, Charles ???Chip??? Roe of Durham, Elizabeth (Terry) Sippel of Salisbury, Sarah Roe of Raleigh and Laura Roe Stevens of Hermosa Beach, CA; her grandchildren, Kaleigh and Brenna Roe, Wes Hunt, Elijah Owen, Christopher Sippel, and William and James Stevens; and a sister, Kathryn (Kay) Goodan of Leland, NC. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Friends will be received from 2-3:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
