Marshall Edward Yancey , Jr

November 7, 1946 — January 31, 2023

Marshall “Marty” Edward Yancey, Jr, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. He was the son of the late Marshall Edward Yancey and Louise Watkins Yancey. Marty was born in Oxford, NC on November 7, 1946. Marty was the husband of Kay Cheatham Yancey for more than 52 years.

For those who knew Marty, which sometimes seemed like everyone in the lower 48 states, they knew a man devoted to his family and friends. Marty and his sister, Betty Lynne, were an inseparable pair, and loved and supported each other throughout their lives, through all the ups and downs life brings. Marty was a man that could be counted on, a rock when nothing else felt secure. He loved his wife, Kay, with all his heart, and would tell anyone that stood still long enough to listen. In addition to being a devoted husband, he was the best dad a son could ask for. When something was hard, and you weren’t sure what to do, Marty was the man you wanted to talk to about it. Marty loved his family deeply, and showed it regularly. He had a quick wit and an infectious grin, and while he might not have always told you what you wanted to hear, you could always count on him to tell you what you needed to hear. Marty made a lasting impression on so many lives, and will be deeply missed by those who loved him so dearly.

Marty is survived by his wife, Kay Yancey; his son, David Yancey (Stephanie) and his precious grandchildren, Mia, Ella, and Lila. He also leaves behind his sister, Betty Lynne Currin, his brother-in-law, Jimmy Cheatham (Becky) and his nieces and nephews, Jody Currin, Carrie Dostie, Cynthia Currin, Karman Cheatham and Kevin Cheatham. He will be greatly missed by many extended family and friends too numerous to name.

Marty is predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Joe Currin.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marty’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
