Durham – Mark Lee Kantrowitz, age 74, died on February 19th, 2025. Mark was born on May 31, 1950 to his late father, Max, and mother Helen Kantrowitz.
Mark graduated from University of Illinois in 1982 with a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and an MS in Physics. He graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Applied Physics in 1971. Mark was a nuclear engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company for over 30 years.
Mark enjoyed sports and participated in many road races throughout New England, as well as the Washington D.C. and London Marathons. He was also an avid skier and cyclist. After retiring to Durham, NC, he was a devoted Pickleball player at Creekside by Bethpage.
Mark and his wife traveled a great deal after retiring to Durham, exploring countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, Greenland, Iceland and Fiji.
Mark is survived by his wife, Deborah Kantrowitz; his son, Mike and daughter Rachel; two stepdaughters: Julia and Glynis Brault; his sister Beth Wallance and niece, Rebecca; and many cousins. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Helen and his father, Max.
A private service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lewy Body Dementia, Association, Inc.
The Kantrowitz is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
