Marie Chickie O'Shea

Marie "Chickie" Althea O'Shea, age 84, died peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Durham Regional Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 7, 1924 to the late Leslie Sherman Greene and Helen Hanrahan Greene. Chickie was a founding member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and an active voluneer ineer parish and community. She worked for many years in various retail settings at Northgate Mall, served the Veterans Administration Hospital and Avila Retreat Center, and worked in the Durham County school system. In addition, she took loving care of her friends, her children and grandchildren. She was devoted to the Catholic Daughters Society, St. Matthew Ladies and Wednesday's Women, and to prayerful recitation of the Rosary. Surviving Chickie are her three children: Margaret O'Shea-Ford and husband, Jeff, of Charlotte, NC; Kathryrn Ann O'Shea of Sacramento, CA; Aneew Sean O'Shea and wife, Pamela, of Rougemont, NC; daughter-in-law, Feona O'Shea of New Jersey; and six grandchildren: Bryan and Paul Ford; Kathryn, Patrick, Connor and David O'Shea. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Major Vincent W. O'Shea, USAF Ret; and her two sons: Vincent J. O'Shea and Stephen P. O'Shea. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 4:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2009 from St. Matthew Catholic Church with Father Robert Diegelman presiding. Her ashes will be buried on Friday at 2:00 PM in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family prior to Mass on Thursday from 3:00-4:00 PM in the church, and once again at a reception in the church immediately following Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vincent and Marie O'Shea Memorial Fund, c/o St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1001 Mason Rd., Durham, NC 27712. On-line memorials: www.hallwynne.com.
