Marianne Brauner died on May 18, 2015, ineer Galloway Ridge home in Pitttsboro, NC. She was born in Kaiserwerth, Germany, on October 29, 1922, and was the daughter of Marta Spieler and Adolf Ophoven. Marianne came to America in 1959 and ineer travels met her husband, Walter Brauner, in Coconut Grove, Florida. They married in 1961 and moved to North Carolina in the early 1960???s. Marianne and Walt shared a long and happy life on their Perry Road farm in Alamance County, NC, with their loyal canee companions: Jenny, Josh, Rusty, Luke, Jake, aneemma. Marianne retired from the Uneersity of North Carolina where she worked many years in the Department of Biostatistics, UNC School of Public Health (SPH). She later worked in the SPH Dean???s Office and the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Ineer retirement, she enjoyed water aerobics, taking long walks, and reading. Marianne was a fierce backgammon competitor! In addition to her husband and parents, Marianne was preceded ineeath by her siblings, Margarete, Elizabeth, Walter, Adolf, and Herman. Marianne is survived by cousins Heinz and Lilli Voss of Duesseldorf, Germany; cousins Sigurd and Ute Spieler of Waldkirch, Germany; great-niece Sabine Sassen Baumann of Schhwalbach, Germany; and great-nephew Peter Sassen. She also leaves behind many special friends at Galloway Ridge, as well as her ???daughters,??? who will cherish her memory. Special gratitude is extended to Nansi Greger-Holt, RN, MPH, FNP, of Greger-Holt Consultants, Geriatric Care Maneement, for her caregiving and to UNC Hospice for providing compassionee care during her last month of life.
