Madeline Schlegel

Madeline Joan Schlegel died Friday evening, neember 7, 2008 at her Durham home. She was born in Stanford, CT on May 8, 1924 to the late Ralph and Gemma Cerreta. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Madeline was a member of Holy Infant Catholic Church. Her unwavering faith in God sustained her throughout her wonderful life. She was an avid reader and devoted Pittsburgh Steeler and Penn State football fan. Madeline is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard Schlegel of Durham, NC; her son, Colonel Richard Schlegel, Jr. and wife, Lois, of Aynor, SC; her daughters: Naida Upchurch and husband, Tim, of Durham; and Gemma Schlegel of Milford, CT; and five grandchildren: Tim and Joseph Upchurch and Aaron, Carley and Ryan Gable. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 AM Tuesday, neember 11, 2008 from Holy Infant Catholic Church with Father Joe Brennan, OFS, presiding. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham.
