Louise Murray Keir, 94, of Croasdaile Village passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2006. She was born in Durham County to the late William Guthrie and Lila Elizabeth Workman Murray. Louise was educated in the Durham Public Schools and graduated in 1929 from Durham High School. She then took advanced studies in English at Duke Uneersity and UNC Chapel Hill. Prior to her retirement in 1983, Louise worked for 43 years at Duke Uneersity, with the last 23 years being in the Department of Business aneeconomics under Dr. Martin L. Black. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Durham, serving as an elder and two terms as a deacon. Louise also served on neerous committees and was active in the church throughout her life. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Henry 1985, whom she married in 1943 and by her sister, Clara Murray Vaughan 2004. Louise and Henry leave two surviving sons and their wives: Richard M. and Jenneer Keir of Greenville, SC; and Douglas C. and DeDe Keir of Thomson, GA. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Caroline K. Clark and husband, Stephen, of Cornelius, NC; Barclay A. Keir of Raleigh, NC; and Kendall R. Keir of Charleston, SC; and one great-grandson, Wynton Joshua Clark. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 17, from the William Prestoneew Chapel of Croasdaile Village. Rev. Joseph S. Harvard, Rev. Marilyn T. Hedgpeth and Rev. Phyllis H. Kort will preside. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
