Lottie Margaret Lawrence, a life-long resident of Durham died unexpectedly oneecember 28, 2009. Born in Durham on June 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Telphor Hinton and Lottie Riley Lawrence. Margaret graduated from Durham High School and attended Duke Uneersity where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She retired from the Tobacco Division of the U.S. government where she was employed for many years. She was a life-long member of Duke Memorial Uneed Methodist Church and most recently attended services in the chapel of The Durham Regent where she resided. She loved life and loved her family. Margaret lived with and cared for her mother, Lottie, until she passed away at 106 years old. Her brothers, Telphor Hinton Lawrence, Jr. and John Riley Lawrence; her sisters, Sybil Hutchins, Susan Harrington and Mary Ann Austin preceded her ineeath. Margaret is survived by her sister, Betsy Lawrence Huckabee; seveneephews, four nieces and their families who all loved their "Aunt Nana". Memories abound of her sweet disposition, compassion and generosity. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Duke Memorial Uneed Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM in the church parlor.
