Durham, North Carolina - Preceded in death by his parents Lonnie “Rebert” Gurley and Mary Louise Crouch Gurley. Survived by “The Love of his life” wife Millie Adams Gurley and his children Mark Adams Gurley (Teresa) Crystal Revill, Jenna Parker, Drew Smith; Mary “Marshall” Gurley Blasko and his grandsons Stephen Lloyd Blasko and Blaise Lazarus Blasko.
Lloyd was born and raised in Goldsboro, NC He began his love of of sports at the Goldsboro Boys Club and attended Goldsboro High School where he lettered in all four sports. Legendary Coach Frank Howard offered him a scholarship to play football at Clemson University.
Lloyd graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and received a degree from the Graduate School of Banking of The South-Louisiana State University. He graduated from the Executive Program at the University of Chapel Hill. Upon graduation he was recruited by Wachovia Bank in Asheville, NC where he began his long career in banking. Lloyd worked his way up from collections to VP of Operations for the western part of NC. In the early 70’s he was promoted to VP of Operations of the Durham Triangle Area. During this time, Lloyd continued his distinguished involvement in many civic and charitable organizations which include: Red Cross, YMCA, Jaycees, Kiwanis, Durham Rotary, Duke Children’s Classic. Lloyd was honored to join First Security Bank & Trust as President in Salisbury, NC. for several years and facilitated the bank’s merger and acquisition process.
He and Millie relocated back to Durham where he was VP of Operations for CCB. He continued his active involvement in the community by serving on various Board of Directors: Methodist Foundation, Epworth United Methodist Church, Durham Chamber of Commerce, Rowan-Cabarrus Foundation, Beaufort NC Historic Society, Durham Sports Club.
